Nabadwip (Navadwip):
Nabadwip is a small town on the banks of the Hooghly river. The city has several temples and is an important religious center in West Bengal. One of the main attractions is the Sonar Gouranga temple. Nabadwip is famous as the birth place of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

In the late twelfth century, during the reign of Lakshmansena of the Sena dynasty, Nabadwip became the capital of Bengal. In the 1201/1202, Nabadwip was captured by Mohammed Bakhtiyar Khilji. This victory paved the way for Muslim rule in Bengal. Nabadwip continued to be an important cultural, religious and educational center of Bengal till the sixteenth century. Today it is a major religious center attracting devotees from all parts of the nation and the world.
Mayapur:

It is often claimed that Mayapur is the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Mayapur is the world headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness more popularly known as the ISKCON. The beautiful complex of the ISKCON temple is today a major tourist as well as religious attraction in West Bengal.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu:

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1533) was born in Nabadwip. He was a great religious figure and for him people of all castes and creeds were equal before God. This led to a revivalism of Hinduism in Muslim ruled Bengal. Mahprabhu's movement along with those of his contemporaries in other parts of India constitute what is known as the Bhakti movement in Indian history.

By train :From Sealdah station to Krishnanagar City. Then by bus to Nabadwip. Else take train from Krishnanagar City to Nabadwip Ghat and cross over to Nabadwip by boat.

Nabadwip : Nabadwip is a holy place for the Vaishnavites as it is the place of birth of Chaitanyadev (1486 AD). But it is also a holy place for people of all religions. Nabadwip is now directly connected by bus and train with Krishnanagar through the Gouranga Bridge on the river Ganges. In the 11th and 12th century Nabadwip was the capital of Banga. It was famous for education in Sanskrit language. There are numerous tem­ples (186) of all sects like Vaishnavas, Sak-tas, Shivaites in Nabadwip. Nabadwip be­comes gay and festive at the time of full moon day in the Bengali month of Agra-hayan (November). People enjoy the festival of "Raas" with dance, songs, tableau, light­ing, colourful decoration etc. Thousands of outsiders flock to Nabadwip to enjoy the fes­tival of Raas. The whole town can be visited by hiring a rickshaw.

NADIA or NABADWIP, an ancient capital of Bengal, was formerly situated on the east bank of the Bhhgirathi, which has since changed its course. Pop. (1901) to,88o. It is celebrated for the sanctity and learning of its pundits, and as the birthplace of Chaitanya, the Vaishnav reformer of the 16th century. Its Sanskrit schools, called LoIs, are well known and of ancient foundation.
